Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
To enter Canada, you need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). These authorizations are issued automatically when you apply for a study permit outside Canada. If you have not applied for a study permit (e.g., if your stay is less than six months), you will need to take the necessary steps to obtain one.
The IRCC website helps to find out if you need a visa.
If you need a visa, you’ll need to send your passport to the Canadian visa office serving your home country, so that the visa can be affixed to the inside of your passport.
To find out how to proceed in each case, see the Entry authorization section.
To find out what you’ll need to do when you arrive, see the Arriving in Canada to study section.
