Demonstrate your financial capacity

When analyzing your application for a temporary residence for students, the Canadian government will evaluate your financial capacity. In some cases, the Québec government will also do so.

If you are renewing your authorizations, you will need to demonstrate your financial capacity to the Quebec government when you apply for your CAQ, and to the Canadian government when you apply to extend your study permit.

In order to prove that you are financially capable, you will need to demonstrate to the immigration officer that you will have the necessary funds for the first year of your program of study. This demonstration should not take into account any future income you may earn after arriving in Canada, for example through employment.

When renewing your authorizations, you must demonstrate to the immigration officer that you will have the necessary funds for the next year. If you have less than one year left to study, you will need to demonstrate your financial capacity for the remaining duration of your studies.

Complete your financial capability file carefully. The more complete it is, the greater your chances are of receiving legal authorization to stay in Canada.
